And don’t worry; you’re not the only one who has questions. Here are just a few examples of the questions I get on a daily basis:

Should we be concerned about security regarding recycling residential plans? There’s nothing to worry about. When we repurpose plans into spiral bound notebooks or glue-bound notepads, our staff removes the title and index pages, all title block information and any other obvious content identifiers. The material is then shuffled with other plan sets, cut down and shuffled again to mix materials. We do this to make sure that nobody, including us, can identify a project and ‘reassemble’ plans from one of our notebooks.
When materials are unfit to be repurposed, they’re recycled. We collect the rolls in cardboard gaylords (boxes that have the same footprint as a wooden pallet) and Honolulu Recovery Systems picks them up when they’re full. They process the material by compacting and bailing the paper with materials they collect for other clients and then the bails are sold to recyclers in different parts of the world.

What’s the difference between repurposing and recycling?Repurposing is when we turn your plans into notebooks or notepads.
Recycling is when we collect your materials, mix them in with ours and then give them to Island Recycling or HRS to be converted into low-grade paper products, such as paper towels and toilet paper, or paper for printing.
Still confused? Give me a call or shoot me an email.

When we recycle with you do our plans get returned to us as notebooks? We can provide you with a few notebooks but since all of our materials are mixed together, we can’t promise that even part of them will be made out of your plans.
Keep in mind that even if you don’t have any recycling, our notebooks are always available for order. We offer large and small spiral bound notebooks, steno style top-bound note pads and three sizes of glue bound note pads. Contact me for more info or a sample.

Are your services available on Maui/Kauai/Big Island/Lanai too?Our Kahului location offers in-store recycling services for plan sets and some recycling pick-up services as well. Contact Joe Williamson at (808) 214-1234 or visit www.honbluemaui.com. We don’t have recycling services available on the other islands yet as we only have staff members on Oahu and Maui. If you need help researching recycling options on other islands, I’d be happy to help. Just give me a call and I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction.

Do you keep track of the volume my company recycles with HONBLUE?We can’t track individual volumes, at least not yet. Why not? Because we combine materials from all our clients as well as our own post production waste into the same recycling containers and without an industrial scale it’s virtually impossible.
