External Initiatives

The purpose of our external initiatives is to get you more involved. Why? Because we all have to work together if we’re going make a difference. We’ve made a big push over the last year and I would like to thank everyone who’s participated – we truly appreciate your support.

re(CLAIM)

Tired of throwing your plans, prints and plastic bottles away because you don't have recycling in your office? Today's your lucky day. With our new re(CLAIM) program, we provide you with the bins, pick them up and empty them for you, all for a flat monthly fee.

When do we come by and pick them up? Depends on how much you recycle. We can do it once a week, once a month or twice a month. We leave the decision up to you.

Sound like something you could be interested in? Please contact me at shines@honblue.com or your sales representative and we'll set up a meeting to work out the details.

Recycle with re(BLUE)Don’t have enough recycling to warrant a weekly or monthly pick up? We can help by collecting old rolls when we drop off new ones. Check it out here.

Recycling Drop Off

We've talked a lot about what, how and when we can pick-up recycling from your office but what if you want to drop materials off? You're more than welcome, as long as it's at our home office in Iwilei. I'm around most of the time and I can help you unload your car, truck, van, Segway, bicycle, rickshaw – whatever you're using to get around these days. If I'm not available, we can accept recycling drop-offs during our regular warehouse hours: M-F 9a-4p. Just give us a quick call to let us know you're coming (me at 441-4452 or the warehouse at 479-6649). If you’re on Maui, contact our store in Kahului at 214-1234.

HI5 Beverage Recycling with Easter Seals Hawaii

Easter Seal's Hawaii currently assists us with our HI5 beverage container recycling. They visit our facility weekly, empty our collection containers and then take the materials to be recycled. They keep the refunds and reap the benefits of interacting with local professionals. We think it's a win-win.

Adopt-A-Block

Adopt-a-BlockWe started participating in this program in 2009 by adopting a few commercial blocks in our own neighborhood. We figured it was a good place to learn about the program and what's required. What did we find out? That it's a big commitment but definitely worth the effort.

For two full years we're required to clean the area a minimum of 8 times. We sweep, remove weeds, overgrowth and leaves from the sidewalk and collaborate with neighbors about how to reduce storm water pollution. It's important to us because litter-free communities are safer and attract new businesses, jobs and customers.

Participants in this program stem mostly from residential areas, which is what makes our involvement unique.  It also created some unforeseen challenges that we’ve fortunately been able to overcome.  We continue to pick up new members every time we “sweep” the neighborhood and it’s really starting to make a difference.  Read more about it here.
